m2atelier architecture & design studio portfolio lists prestigious international clients, as well as collaboration in the residential, nautical and retail sectors with names of the caliber of Dolce & Gabbana or Furla. They chose Matbold to redesign the studio’s identity, complete new branding, digital branding including new website and the social media communication standards. We are happy to invite you for a visit into their private residence...
The Milanese apartment of Marijana Radovic and Marco Bonelli, wife and husband owners of the m2atelier architecture studio, is filled with precious artifacts. The couple's home - located on the first floor of a building dating back to the early 20th century, between Corso Sempione and the Arco della Pace - reflects the stylistic code of their brand: simplicity, precious materials, contemporary bespoke furnishings combined with classic pieces and refined functional solutions. A mix that gives the interiors a comfortable elegance and an essential family intimacy for the parents of two children.
The m2atelier offices are also located in the same building, extending over the entire ground floor, a former pot factory. "Home and work space are dutifully adjacent, to counterbalance our constant travel," explains Marco, who returned to Italy in 2000 after ten years spent in New York.
In the pre-existing layout the rooms opened to the corridor. Today, a 60㎡ room overlooking the terrace features an ingenious decoration dominated by solitaire artifacts: a three-dimensional work by the Swiss artist Lukas Rapold, a scenic wall in wood and brass strips, a large sofa designed by the designers themselves, a sophisticated custom-made circular table in the dining area. "To cancel the prevailing petty bourgeois mood, we decided to introduce a strong expressive materials to the rooms; then we completely changed the original floor plan, leveled the ceilings and replaced the doors with full-height sliding doors solution". Translucent surfaces reflect the interiors, multiplying them as in a mirror maze.
The interior now shines with a fluid linearity. In the narrowest passages, a tinted glass panels have been introduced behind the cabinets, to enhance the spaciousness and also conceal the structural elements. "The many storage possibilities allow us to display only what we like: the sculptures of Stefano D'Amico, a chair by Gio Ponti, the works of Fausto Melotti and Vanessa Beecroft", Marijana points out. To soften the formal simplicity, a warm palette, ranging from powder to marron glacé and various shades of beige, was introduced to evoke the atmosphere of the old Milanese palaces in the interiors.
The residence is an attribute to the unique charm of Milan: cosmopolitan, but pervaded by gentle reminiscences of the past. It is a quintessence of the work and lifestyle of the m2atelier founders.
