David Bromley is one of Australia’s most recognizable contemporary artists, known for a creative universe that spans painting, sculpture, fashion and collectible design. The initial brief called for a website redesign, but during the process it became clear that the project required something more meaningful: a digital experience capable of revealing the artist behind the work. Matbold developed a storytelling-driven platform that balances Bromley’s words and artworks, creating a more intimate connection between the audience and one of Australia’s most influential contemporary artists.
Bromley’s work exists within a complex creative ecosystem that includes galleries, collaborations, exhibitions and collectible objects. Beyond the artwork itself, the artist’s personal story and philosophy play a significant role in shaping the broader cultural identity of the brand.

The entire experience was designed mobile-first, using scroll as the primary interaction that guides visitors through different narrative flows. Particular attention was given to the hierarchy of visual and textual elements, ensuring a careful balance between Bromley’s own words and the presentation of his artwork. Matbold developed a complete visual language and branding system for the platform, translating it into interactive components, transitions and motion design that support the storytelling structure.
The result is an immersive digital experience that reveals a more personal dimension of Bromley’s work while presenting the artist’s universe with clarity and elegance. The project was recognized internationally and received the Awwwards Site of the Day, highlighting the platform as an outstanding example of digital storytelling and design.
